Breaking fast together.
Most of the year we deliver meals to people's homes. During Ramadan we sit down and eat with them.
The Program
Everyone eats at the same table.
Each gathering brings together families from the weekly meals program, Ummah Corps students, and neighbors from around Cirebon. Donors join on a video call. Everyone sits down at sunset and eats the same food.
Our field team organizes the evenings with a group of volunteers. There are several over the course of the month, in different neighborhoods of Cirebon, each one catered with traditional Indonesian dishes.
Dates for the next Ramadan program are announced in Sha'ban. Anyone who gives to the Iftar fund gets an invitation to join the gathering on the live video stream.

Program Details
What happens at each Iftar
Before Maghrib
Gathering & Welcome
Families arrive at the venue, usually a mosque hall or community center our field team has booked. Nobody is asked what they earn, and nobody is seated according to whether they gave or received.
At Maghrib
Adhan & Breaking Fast
The adhan is called. Dates and water go round first, following the sunnah, and then the meal itself: traditional West Javanese dishes prepared by local cooks hired for the evening.
After Isha
Community & Dua
After Tarawih people stay and talk. Donors come on the live video stream to give their salaams, and a local imam or scholar offers a short reflection and makes dua for everyone there.
