Our standard
We treat every donation as a sacred trust.
Jabal started as a small circle of friends and family who wanted to know, beyond doubt, that what they gave reached the people it was meant for. Most giving does not work that way. You send the money and you hope. We decided from the first dollar that we would show our books instead.
We are still small, and we get a lot out of being small. We also want to set a standard for how an Islamic charity can run: accountable to the cent, and built to outlast the people who started it. Part of that is trying things the rest of the sector has not, which is why we give every donor a tracking link that shows when their donation was processed and distributed.

Why we're called Jabal
A gift the size of a date, grown into a mountain.
If one gives in charity what equals one date-fruit from the honestly earned money, and Allah accepts only the honestly earned money, Allah takes it in His right hand and then enlarges its reward for that person, as anyone of you brings up his baby horse, so much so that it becomes as big as a mountain.
A time will soon come when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep which he will take on the top of mountains and the places of rainfall (valleys) so as to flee with his religion from afflictions.
We want Jabal to be both: a place where small, sincere giving becomes mountainous good, and a refuge that lifts the vulnerable to higher ground. It is why we pour into the future of orphaned and disadvantaged youth through our flagship Ummah Corps program, giving them somewhere safe to learn and grow, and why our Entrepreneur Zakat Fund turns recipients into providers.

Costs kept low
We keep programme costs exceptionally low by drawing administrative expenses from a separate admin fund, so gifts meant for the field go to the field.

Every dollar of Zakat reaches an eligible recipient. Processing fees come out of our separate general funds, never out of Zakat.
Built for the long term
A share of donations goes into a permanent Waqf endowment, so a gift given once carries on giving even if every other donation stopped. We would rather end a family's need for aid than fund it again next year.
